Manchester United are not prepared to pay more than £43million for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez, according to reports. Atletico have reportedly identified a replacement for Saul if he were to leave the club this summer. United have long been linked with a move for the Spain international.
Last year, United legend Rio Ferdinand made it clear he would love his former side to sign Saul.
Reacting to those comments and the links with the Red Devils, the 26-year-old admitted he was flattered.
“Well, honestly, very well,” he told Marca when asked about the rumours linking him with United.
“I am very flattered that a club like Manchester United, or other teams that ask about me, take me into consideration. For me it is very positive.

“And important people from those clubs [such as Ferdinand] speaking well of me means that I am doing things well at Atletico Madrid.”
And it appears United’s interest in the player has not gone away.
Spanish outlet La Razon claim United are the only club to have expressed an interest in signing him.
The report says the Old Trafford side would be prepared to pay between £30m and £43m for his services.

Those figures are some way off the £130m release clause in Saul’s contract.
Saul still has over five years remaining on his Atletico deal.
But it appears he wants out of the Wanda Metropolitano.
Atletico are eyeing Napoli’s Spain star Fabian Ruiz as Saul’s replacement.
La Razon says Fabian could join Atletico for a fee of around £43m.
Atletico wanted to sign the 24-year-old last year after they sold Thomas Partey to Arsenal.
However, Napoli would not have had time to buy a replacement for him.
United are in the market for a midfielder, according to Duncan Castles of the Transfer Window podcast.
But it isn’t the only position Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to strengthen this summer.
Castles said: “Those targets, you also have the goalkeeper they’re looking at and the possibility of trying to move David de Gea out, and in discussions with Gianluigi Donnarumma about coming as a free agent.
“Looking at a striker, obviously Solskjaer’s preferred candidate for that is Erling Haaland.
“There is a kind of flow towards that because [Edinson] Cavani is on a very expensive salary, so retaining him is not the cheapest of options.
“A central midfielder, I’m told they’re looking for a player who can play as a No 6 as a holding midfielder, or as a No 8, to play both positions and give them more options in midfield.
“Back-up right-back and another centre-back [as well].”
