Manchester United are ‘likely’ to be sold in the spring, with the Glazers set to make a profit on their 2005 purchase. The news will spark joy amongst Red Devils supporters, who have held protests against the American family over the past few years to attempt to force them out.

Fans have grown tired of the Glazers and feel that they are largely responsible for the club’s failure to win the Premier League since 2013, Sir Alex Ferguson’s final campaign at the club before he retired. Numerous players and managers have come and gone since then, but the club has come no closer to true success.

United appear to have settled with manager Erik ten Hag so far this season, with the Dutchman looking to completely overhaul the squad and implement his own policies and philosophy on the squad. With that, top players have left, with Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract recently being terminated.

And there could be a changing of hands upstairs at Old Trafford sooner rather than later, with the BBC reporting that the club could be sold before the end of the season. A deal is thought to be completed before the spring, with the Glazers set to make billions of profit.

The Glazers purchased United for £790million in a leveraged buyout, though they will sell for ‘far in excess’ of £3.05billion. Numerous reports have also emerged of those holding an interest in purchasing the Old Trafford outfit, with consortiums from Saudi Arabia and Qatar both willing to sound out their interest.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe, Britain’s richest man, is also expected to table an offer for his boyhood club – after rejecting the chance to sign rivals Liverpool earlier this season. Though his team were not willing to comment on any purchasing prospects when the news of United being on the market came to light.

The Glazers leaving will be a moment to celebrate for supporters, especially as Ronaldo believes that is them that are holding United back from winning trophies and competing with the likes of Manchester Cty and Liverpool. In his blockbuster interview with Piers Morgan, which consequently saw his contract terminated, he said: “The Glazers, they don’t — they don’t care about, about the club. I mean, professional sport.

“As you know this, Manchester is a marketing club. They will get their money from the marketing, the sport, it’s . . . they don’t really care, in my opinion. You have some things inside the club which don’t help Manchester reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal, for example. It’s hard in my opinion. It will be hard for Manchester to be at the top of the game, the next two, three years.”
