Burnley v Man Utd: Match in pictures

Manchester United are back at the top of the Premier League after beating Burnley 1-0 on Tuesday night at Turf Moor. The Red Devils now face a potential title decider against Liverpool on Sunday evening in arguably the biggest game of the season.

Manchester United must surely recognise now what they have to do to go on and win the Premier League after overtaking Liverpool in the table.

The Red Devils overcame a potential banana skin to narrowly beat Burnley 1-0 on Tuesday night, taking them to the top of the table.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side can pull six points ahead with a win over Liverpool on Sunday evening, but could well find themselves back in second with a defeat.

Paul Pogba volleyed home for United against Burnley in a game they dominated, but never looked like comfortably winning.

And the clash at Turf Moor shows that Solskjaer has been bang on with his ethos about taking one game at a time.

Every time the Norwegian has been quizzed about whether his side should be considered title contenders, Solskjaer’s answer has been the same – focus on the next match.

After the 2-1 win over Aston Villa on New Year’s Day, he said: “We’ve improved and we’re getting better.

“I think the league and the season is going to be so tight, anyway.

“There’s going to be difficult games, there’s going to be strange results. We’ve just got to keep working and improving as a team.

“We’ve done that and since Project Restart I think we’ve been a very consistent team.”

While all he would add when asked if his side were in a position to challenge was, “Every time you win a game, of course, you take one step further and it’s three points.

“In total you’ve just got to accumulate the points. The first game is just as important as the last game of the season. They all count the same.”

And speaking last week ahead of the defeat against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup, Solskjaer insisted his mind had not wandered to that fateful clash just yet.

“I’ve not started thinking about that,” he replied when asked about the potential title decider.

“We’ve got a big game here on Wednesday against City at Old Trafford.

“There are so many games you can’t think four days ahead really because there’s always something just around the corner.”
