Man Utd possible line-up if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gets summer transfer wish
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has handed his transfer wishlist to the club hierarchy, with four big names looking to integrate into the starting line-up.
The Norwegian remains trophyless as United boss following Wednesday night’s Europa League final defeat, so he wants the club to strengthen his squad.
United have made no effort to conceal their chase of Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, who could be available at a cut price after last summer’s transfer saga.
The Red Devils also look to be one of two clubs after Tottenham frontman Harry Kane, with only neighbours Manchester City tipped to rival United’s chase of the England captain.
Solskjaer also wants to bolster his midfield, and with West Ham looking to raise funds to buy Jesse Lingard and Tammy Abraham, Declan Rice looks set to leave the London Stadium.
Meanwhile, United continue to search for a long-term partner for captain Harry Maguire in the centre of defence, and were sufficiently impressed with Villarreal’s Pau Torres in the Europa League final.
With those four, the Red Devils could line up rather differently at Old Trafford next season.
David de Gea’s time at the club seems to be coming to an end after his penalty miss in Wednesday’s final defeat, so Dean Henderson will likely be the club’s No.1 going forward.
Torres is likely to partner Maguire in defence, with English full-back pair Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw the first choice pairing on the flanks.
Rice would operate as a deep-lying defensive midfielder, giving Paul Pogba the opportunity to play with freedom in central midfield.
While Sancho would likely operate on the right-side of attack, his England teammate Marcus Rashford should maintain his position on the left flank.
Bruno Fernandes would operate between the wingers and behind Kane in attack, pulling the strings as he has done so well since his arrival.
Should Solskjaer choose this line-up, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, Fred and Scott McTominay would have to settle for spaces on the bench or move on.
