Manchester United are planning to hold talks with the representatives of Jude Bellingham in a bid to fend off interest from fellow rivals. The England international midfielder is expected to be at the centre of a mass transfer scramble next summer when he is expected to leave Borussia Dortmund after three seasons in the Bundesliga following his 2020 transfer from Birmingham City.
United consider themselves ready to enter the mix for the 19-year-old but they will be faced with intense competition from a whole host of Premier League clubs including Liverpool and Chelsea.
Nonetheless, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is reporting that United will begin work on the deal in due course after missing out to Dortmund just over two years ago.
He told The United Stand: “If you want my opinion, it’s that it will be really, really difficult.
“If you want the reality, it’s that Manchester United will try. They want to try and have conversation with people close to Jude Bellingham and explain to them their project.

“Man United will try and I think it’s normal because even if it’s not a good time at the club, it’s Manchester United. It’s always attractive for many, many players.
“It’s not easy because many clubs will be there, it’s not just about the money it’s about the project.
“I’m sure Manchester City and Liverpool will be there. Chelsea will also go for a midfielder, Real Madrid will be there.
“Nothing will be decided now because he wants to focus of Borussia Dortmund and the World Cup.”
United thought they were about to land Bellingham in 2020 when he was shown around Carrington during his time at Birmingham but the highly-rated teen would later select Dortmund as his next destination of choice.
Old Trafford icon Bryan Robson was part of United’s sell and he has since revealed that Bellingham looked set to join United after meeting Sir Alex Ferguson and Eric Cantona.
“Unfortunately for us he decided to move to Germany. We thought we more or less had him. Myself, Sir Alex and Eric Cantona all met him with his mum and dad at Carrington and after that meeting we thought he was coming to us,” Robson said.
“Now there is talk about him moving next summer and you see Liverpool mentioned a lot. We thought we had him and he would have been a great signing for us. But he definitely has it in him to become a great player for England.”
United are looking to add more quality to their midfield with new signing Casemiro still yet to win over Erik ten Hag.
The Brazilian left Real Madrid to pursue a new challenge in England but so far, things have not gone entirely to plan.
Casemiro has looked off the pace whenever he has featured with Scott McTominay still preferred in midfield over the club’s £70million signing.
Ten Hag named Casemiro on the bench for the Manchester derby in which United were beaten 6-3 after scoring two late goals to salvage an embarrassing scoreline.
