Man Utd may have shot themselves in the foot as rivals ‘plan Amrabat swap deal’
Premier League season preview: Man Utd
Manchester United could be made to pay for delaying their pursuit of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. With the Moroccan still waiting for clarity over his future, Juventus are reportedly ramping up their efforts and could table a swap deal to lure their Serie A rivals to the negotiating table.
It was thought that United had effectively won the race for Amrabat last month. Liverpool were reportedly snubbed after making an approach, with the player said to be dead set on a move to Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag and co were expected to go full steam ahead for the 26-year-old after tying up a deal for Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish striker is now bedding in with the Red Devils, but there has been no sign of progress regarding Amrabat.
United’s reluctance to put cash on the table could ultimately come back to bite them. According to Sportmediaset, Juve have now thrown together a transfer plan of action.

The Bianconeri have turned their full attention towards Amrabat after agreeing to sell Denis Zakaria to Monaco. The Swiss’ exit will pave the way for another midfielder to take his place in Turin.
And sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli wants the vacancy to be filled by Amrabat. Fiorentina are reportedly demanding £26million to get the deal done, but Juve believe that proposing a number of swap deal opportunities could work in their favour.

If that proves to be the case, United could be left stranded by their own decision not to swoop for Amrabat immediately. Atletico Madrid also pose a threat, particularly given that the player is thought to be keen on working with manager Diego Simeone.
The Red Devils could storm back into the equation over the coming days once Fred completes his move to Fenerbahce. Reports indicate that the two clubs have agreed a £13m fee for the Brazilian, which would see United go after another midfielder.
Scott McTominay could also leave Old Trafford this summer, although West Ham are yet to come back with an improved offer after learning of United’s £45m asking price.
Ten Hag already has three summer signings in the bank, and he will have to make do for now as he gears up for his side’s first game of the Premier League season against Wolves on Monday night.
