Man Utd icon Andy Cole accuses Marcus Rashford of lacking Edinson Cavani trait

Man Utd: Defensive frailties frustrate Solskjaer

Edinson Cavani has been a revelation at Manchester United since joining on deadline day back in October and Andy Cole believes the striker holds one key advantage over Marcus Rashford. United ended up signing Cavani at the end of the summer transfer window having been unable to strike a deal for Jadon Sancho.

There were originally question marks on how Cavani would fit in at Old Trafford, but it’s proven to be a shrewd piece of business so far.

The Uruguayan was on the scoresheet once again at the weekend with a brilliant finish against Everton for his sixth league goal in just seven starts.

Cavani appears to be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred option up front now having experimented with Rashford through the middle previously.

The England international may have more goals than Cavani this season, but Cole doesn’t think Rashford can be as effective through the middle as the former Paris Saint-Germain striker.

“Marcus is not going to be a clinical centre-forward like a Cavani,” said Cole on the Sunday Session on talkSPORT.

“Marcus will nick himself a certain amount of goals season in, season out, but he won’t be that individual you’re looking for to score 20/25 goals.

“I don’t think Marcus has got that clinical side in him.

“If you look at what Man United have now with Cavani; you know what you’re going to get [with him], it’s as simple as that.”

Cavani was labeled a ‘panic buy’ after signing for United on deadline day, with Gary Neville among those who were sceptical on how he would fit in at Old Trafford.

But the Red Devils icon has changed his opinion on Cavani since and believes the other United forwards must learn from the experienced striker.

“I have to say he’s been a revelation,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“His attitude, which is the only real question about him because his quality is fantastic, is spot on.

“His out of possession work is far better than Martial, Rashford and Greenwood.

“They’ve got a lot to learn those young players in terms of how he operates when Manchester United haven’t got the ball and I think ultimately, those young three I’ve named, haven’t grabbed that No 9 spot.

“He’s come in, off the bench to start with, then you see his movement when he’s started playing, they look more physical up front when he’s there and he’s done brilliantly for United in this last month or so.”
