Manchester United hero Paul Scholes has criticised both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Aaron Wan-Bissaka following their 2-0 defeat to Manchester City on Saturday. The Red Devils went into the game after positive results against Atalanta and Tottenham. But, once again, they were put to the sword by rivals on their own turf.

City took the lead against United through Eric Bailly, with the former Villarreal star putting the ball past David De Gea and into his own net.

And the visitors doubled their lead just before the interval, with Bernardo Silva on target.

Those goals were enough for City to leave their fierce rivals with all three points to their name, boosting their chances of winning the Premier League title again in the process.

And Scholes, speaking to Premier League Productions, has slammed Solskjaer and Wan-Bissaka following the result.

“The conviction has to come from the coach of the way you’re going to play football,” he said.

“Ole has been here three years now and we’ve come here today not really knowing what he’s going to do.

“That makes the recruitment almost impossible because you’re not buying players for a system.

“Look at Pep, he’ll buy players for a system. He brought Grealish this year for his system, he brought Mahrez in for his system.

“Jurgen Klopp brings Diogo Jota in as another forward for his system. We are bringing players in and trying to shoehorn them into positions.

“Three years down the line you can see the evidence on the pitch, today and two weeks ago we are a long way off.

“I do think we’ve got a group of good players but Ole has to convince everyone that he is the right man to find the right formation for this team.

“Stop messing about changing it for everyone else.

“He’s got to now have a conviction, whatever it is I don’t care just have that conviction.

“I said before the 3-5-2 doesn’t suit the players in the team. Wan Bissaka is useless on the ball, brilliant defender but useless on the ball at right-back.

“Three centre halves today, none of them that good on the ball.

“Ole has got to find a way and it’s job by the way. There’s a squad of players there that could be OK.”

Another United legend, Roy Keane, has admitted there are now ‘serious questions’ over Solskjaer and his credentials.

“You have to draw the line now. It’s not quite happening,” the ex-United captain stated.

“Ole is a brilliant guy and an honest guy but management is about survival and he’s got to get a result in the next game.

“A coach or a manager can’t give a player courage. I have to remind myself it’s hard out there but they shouldn’t be 11 points behind [league leaders] Chelsea.

“I think Ole will be under more pressure than the Liverpool game. “The way they lost, it’s a derby game.

“Ole was shook up in that interview, it’s tough for a manager when you’ve got beat in a match and he’s getting asked hard questions but he’s steps up and he always has and I’ll give him that.

“But if you’re a manager, this morning he spoke about the players being in a good mood in the hotel whatever the hell they were doing, you’re going into a match looking at the bus and [Luke] Shaw, [Harry] Maguire, Fred and your job is depending on these guys?

“You’re in trouble. You’ve got international players. Anyone who tells me Fred is good enough for United – they’re in cuckoo cuckoo land.

“Cavani is 30-odd you can’t hang your hat on him every week. I can imagine Ole looking at players and not knowing what you’re going to get.

“Micah [Richards] will enjoy their day and they all have their little day, Liverpool one title in 30 years. Man United are in a bad place, but there’s a way out.

“Is Ole the man to do it? Huge question marks.

“I hope [he is] but it’s more hope than belief.”
