Paris Saint-Germain’s interest in signing Marcus Rashford could strike fear into the hearts of the higher powers at Manchester United. The England international is out of contract at the end of the season, though his boyhood side has the option to extend the deal by a further year.
After several underwhelming campaigns, Erik ten Hag has helped Rashford get his career back on track. The forward has been moved off of the left wing and is now playing in a central role for United, scoring four and assisting two in 14 league appearances.
Rashford has recaptured his form on the international stage too, scoring three goals for England at the Qatar World Cup and putting himself in the frame to start against France on Saturday evening. The 25-year-old’s good form has also put him in the shop window, with United reportedly fearful of their academy product’s expiring contract.
The Daily Star reported that the club are worried that they will be ‘forced to sell’ Rashford next summer if he does not pen a new deal at Old Trafford, with Real Madrid waiting to pounce. Long-term admirers PSG have since confirmed that they are also in the race to secure his signature.
Asked about their interest in Rashford earlier this week, the Ligue 1 outfit’s president Nasser al-Khelaifi told Sky Sports: “He’s another player that is really amazing. And for free? To have Rashford for free, every club would run after him, definitely.
“We’re not hiding it, we spoke before and [there was] interest, but the moment was not a good moment for both sides. Maybe, summer, why not?” United are hopeful that Rashford will extend his contract at United and feel that Ten Hag’s influence could be a contributing factor, though until he has signed on the dotted line, there is every chance that the player may be moved on rather than departing on a free transfer.

They also are able to extend Rashford’s deal by another year but are yet to activate that clause in his contract. Khelaifi continued: “Today if he’s a free agent of course we can talk to him directly, but we are not going to talk to him now.
“Let him focus on the World Cup. Then after, in January hopefully, if we’re interested we will talk to him.” It remains to be seen whether United’s fears are misplaced or that they have every reason to worry about the future of their No 10 when a concrete contract offer is tabled amid all of the interest.
