Manchester United have been handed a major injury boost ahead of today’s match against Liverpool. Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford were both doubts for the clash at Old Trafford. However, the duo were both pictured with the United squad at the Lowry Hotel on Saturday night.

Fernandes picked up a knock in Wednesday’s 3-2 comeback win over Atalanta in the Champions League.

However, it appears he has shaken off the problem having joined up with the rest of the squad.

Rashford had also suffered a dead leg in midweek after scoring the first of United’s three goals in that victory.

But the Manchester Evening News have also spotted the England international at the team hotel, which could suggest he may be able to play a part today.

The report says Fred was not with the United squad but his absence could be down to COVID-19 quarantine guidelines following his return from international duty with Brazil earlier this month.

United are still without Raphael Varane as he continues his recovery from a groin injury he picked up during the international break.

Liverpool are favourites heading into the match and are the only Premier League side to still be unbeaten this season.

In the build up to the match, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken of the magnitude of the rivalry between the two clubs.

He admits Liverpool have been ahead in recent years but is doing everything he can to turn that around.

“It’s a massive rivalry because of the history of the two clubs,” Solskjaer said.

“As you say, the amount of titles and trophies these two clubs have won, and the history between us, the two cities, the football clubs, it’s a rivalry you have to embrace.

“You have to also hold your hand up and say they are a very good club and a very good team.

“You have to make sure you are better than them and in the last four years they’ve been tremendous and we are in truth chasing them.

“The last four years, the results, we have been behind them. Now we’ve begun to take steps but the next big step is to be above them because we were above them last season.

“But that’s history and hopefully this season we can achieve something better.”
