Man Utd fans unite in delight as Liverpool’s hopes crumble in dramatic fashion
Manchester United fans took solace in Liverpool's quadruple hopes crumbling after another defeat in their terrible season.
While United were beat 1-0 on their travels by Crystal Palace, their rivals missed out on the Premier League title in dramatic fashion as Man City came back from 2-0 down to win and pip them by one point.
After hearing City had made taken the lead against Aston Villa, those in the away end at Selhurst Park started cheering and chanted "You Scouse b******s". United fans watching on at home were equally happy that Jurgen Klopp's side wouldn't be able to improve on their treble success of 1999.
One tweeted: "HAHAHAHA ANOTHER DECADE WITHOUT A TITLE." Another wrote: "This is the best I have felt all season. And it’s because Man City have won the title and not Liverpool. I’m a #MUFC fan and they lost."
A third post read: "Only bright spot of the season: Watching Gerard bottle another chance to win the league for Liverpool. Oh, and never having to watch this United team play again."
Where will United finish under Ten Hag next season? Let us know in the comments section.
One United supporter claimed: "Well in the end it all turned out well. Liverpool didn’t win the league, another thrilling City title win and somehow we managed to secure Europa League… The Premier League is so damn exciting even when we aren’t an integral part of it anymore."
Former Red Devils defender Gary Neville also got in on the act. He posted a picture of him and Sir Alex Ferguson following their treble-securing Champions League triumph over Bayern Munich and wrote: “'They’ll be trying for a long time son to do what we’ve just done'."
Liverpool can make it three trophies in one season with success in the Champions League final next Saturday (May 28), having already both domestic cup competitions, but it would be a Premier League-less treble, unlike United's.
Their nightmare season may have ended in defeat, but they did secure Europa League qualification thanks to West Ham's loss at Brighton. New boss Erik ten Hag watched on from the stands as he gets set to take the reins.
