Cristiano Ronaldo has been linked with a sensational return to Manchester, switching his allegiance from red to blue.

The 36-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at Juventus and is eyeing a move to join Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The Spaniard is in need of an additional forward having missed out on the signing of Harry Kane; the Tottenham striker has confirmed he is staying at Spurs this summer.

A three-time Premier League winner with Manchester United, Ronaldo would be a remarkable coup for the City boss.

But the rumours have angered fans of Man Utd and many supporters have jumped onto Twitter to make the same point, relating to Sir Alex Ferguson.

Several times Ronaldo has gone on record to show affection for his former manager, describing him as a father figure.

And supporters of the Red Devils have argued that to sign for United's rivals would undermine his relationship with the great Scotsman:

"Cristiano Ronaldo would never sign for Man City. He loves us and Sir Alex far too much," stated one fan.

"Ronaldo to City?? Hell No that will be the end of his United legacy. Sir Alex Ferguson will be disappointed," said another.

While one supporter simply quoted Ronaldo's comments from 2015 when he was questioned about a potential move to the Citizens for more money:

"You think the money will change my mind now? I don’t think so," said the five-time Ballon d'Or winner speaking to the BBC.

"This is not going to be a problem. If you speak about the money, I’ll go to Qatar.

"They probably have more money than Manchester City. It’s not about the money, it’s about the passion.”

Has Ronaldo changed his mind since his interview in 2015? With less than a week remaining of the transfer window, we'll find out soon enough.
