Man Utd could sign Kylian Mbappe for cheaper price than Rasmus Hojlund
Manchester United may be able to snap up Kylian Mbappe for cheaper than top target Rasmus Hojlund if they can secure a loan deal for the Frenchman. The Red Devils have agreed personal terms with Hojlund but have been stumped by Atalanta’s asking price for the 20-year-old striker.
Atalanta have slapped a hefty £86million price tag on Hojlund’s head, which United view as “excessive”. According to reports, the Red Devils are willing to walk away from the deal if Atalanta don’t drop their asking price by at least £25m.
Erik ten Hag is desperate for a new No 9 but a firm ceiling has been set by the board when it comes to the Hojlund deal. If the two clubs can’t reach an agreement then pursuing Mbappe on a one-year loan would surely work out cheaper.
The BBC claim that PSG are willing to consider loan moves for their unsettled forward but would require a large instalment to make it financially viable. It is highly unlikely that the fee would exceed the £86m Atalanta want for Hojlund and it could end up benefitting both parties.
The Frenchman has one year remaining on his deal at Parc de Princes and reportedly has an agreement in place to join Real Madrid on a free transfer in 2024. United are in desperate need of a striker and could temporarily alleviate the problem by bringing in Mbappe for next season.
However, the BBC also claim that the 24-year-old is not currently seen as a realistic transfer target. This is despite various other outlets linking Mbappe with a move to Old Trafford.

The Telegraph report that United, Chelsea and Tottenham have all expressed interest in Mbappe. Sources close to the publication state that other potential suitors are readying their bids in response to Al Hilal’s world-record offer with Barcelona, Inter Milan also in for the player.
The Saudi Pro League side have submitted a staggering £259m bid for Mbappe and are willing to fork out a further £600m in wages on a one-year deal. PSG have since accepted the offer and are allowing the player to speak directly to Al Hilal executives. But whether Mbappe wishes to spend an entire year of his prime in Saudi Arabia is yet to be seen, leaving the door open for United.
