Man Utd could lose Erik ten Hag if Red Devils repeat Jose Mourinho mistake
Erik ten Hag wants Man Utd to use FA Cup final defeat as motivation
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United project could go up in flames if the Glazers return to old habits that contributed to Jose Mourinho’s demise. The Red Devils’ summer transfer plans are up in the air amid an ongoing takeover fiasco that has frustrated those associated for seven months.
Reports claim a decision on the route the Glazers want to take is imminent, with Qatari Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani and British businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe waiting.
But the approval process once a preferred bidder emerges will take eight to 12 weeks, meaning United will operate under the current ownership for most of the summer transfer window.
Ten Hag has therefore been left with the Glazers’ budget after guiding United back into the Champions League in his first year, which is said to be no more than £120million due to Financial Fair Play limitations.
With an elite goalkeeper, midfielder and striker desired, the Dutchman must rely on player sales to ensure he recruits his targets before his second season at the helm.
However, his budget isn’t the most significant problem stemming from United’s takeover delay.

Ten Hag is reportedly furious that he looks destined to miss out on West Ham United captain Declan Rice to Arsenal due to ownership uncertainty.
And if the same trend follows with other leading targets, United could suffer a disastrous summer similar to 2018 under Mourinho.
The Portuguese coach had guided United into the Champions League with a second-place Premier League finish, improving on sixth the previous campaign.
But the Glazers rewarded him with a transfer window comprising three senior incomings – Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant.

It was no surprise that Mourinho’s frustrations boiled over in the campaign’s opening months, leading to his explosive sacking in December.
If Ten Hag doesn’t receive the backing he needs this summer, United aren’t just at risk of regressing from a positive start but are playing with fire in terms of their manager.
Ten Hag has proven he is of the calibre United need to return to the summit of English football. But he will be increasingly disgruntled over the chaos the Glazers are inflicting on his preparations.
The Red Devils must ensure it’s business as usual in the transfer market so Ten Hag’s positive start to life at Old Trafford doesn’t fizzle out like Mourinho’s.
