Man Utd clear up why Marcus Rashford ran over to Dean Henderson after scoring
Marcus Rashford scored twice on his memorable Manchester United debut and ran over to celebrate with Dean Henderson.
The striker, then a tender 18-year-old, was drafted in at the eleventh hour to play FC Midtjylland in the Europa League.
Anthony Martial's injury in the warm-up allowed Rashford to steal the show as he scored twice in 12 second-half minutes.
United won the clash 5-1 and Rashford celebrated his goals by running over to the Family Stand knowing full well some of his fellow academy players would be there.
Henderson, who joined the Red Devils at 14, was quick to grab the forward in celebration.
And now Manchester United have cleared up what was behind the gesture and why the teammates embraced by sitting them down for a chat.
“You were in the crowd,” Rashford recalled, in an interview with the club's official website as he discussed the moment with Henderson.
“The Academy get particular seats and they'd just moved you. They used to be high up, the tickets, but not long after I started training with the first team the seats moved to the Family Stand.
“I just knew that there were people there and as I was running I just saw you and you grabbed me! [Laughs] Great memories.
"That’s probably the bit I remember the most. I remember the goals and stuff and how they happened, but other than that I don’t really remember the game itself.
"I just remember certain moments.”
Rashford and Henderson are now side by side in United's first team.
The Red Devils have a long history of giving young talent a chance to thrive and the goalkeeper admits it was a huge source of pride to see the striker taking his chance.
He said: “Growing up with you for the last few years and seeing you come onto the pitch was just great.
“I had a huge amount of pride seeing you on there and when the ball fell to you and you hit it, I was just buzzing.
"And for the second goal you ran straight to the same place; it was fantastic.
"We spoke about it the next day and I was still buzzing and I wanted to know what it was like to play out there.”
