Man Utd ‘can’t catch a break’ as fans learn Sabitzer blow before Barcelona tie

Manchester United fans are worried the club might be jinxed after learning Marcel Sabitzer will miss their crunch Europa League clash with Barcelona.

The Austrian midfielder has impressed since joining on loan from Bayern Munich last month but United will have to soldier on without him this week because of a suspension snafu.

Sabitzer picked up a yellow card, his third of the tournament, during Bayern's Champions League clash with Inter Milan in November, landing himself a one-match ban and ruling him out of Thursday's Camp Nou clash, even though he now plays for a different team in a different competition.

United supporters aired their frustrations on social media, with one fan claiming it was "typical" of the club's luck at the moment.

"Bro we can’t catch a break with these suspensions," one user tweeted. Another said: "Just typical isn't it. Something was always going to wreck his strong start."

A third commented: "First Casemiro goes out before a crucial game and now that this. FFS."

The suspension comes at an awful time for Erik ten Hag – who has already lost Christian Eriksen and Scott McTominay to a long-term injuries this season.

His side are still fighting on all four fronts, and their mettle is about to be seriously tested with an EFL Cup final against Newcastle, an FA Cup clash with West Ham and a double-header with Barcelona to come in the next fortnight.

Barcelona are flying high in La Liga having lost just one league match all season. They're currently 11 points clear of Real Madrid in second, though Los Blancos have a game in hand.
