Manchester United could be set to keep hold of Jesse Lingard ahead of next season, with West Ham United turning their focus towards the signing of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Liverpool, according to reports. Lingard exceeded all expectations during his recent six-month loan spell with the Hammers, chipping in with nine goals and five assists to help the east London outfit seal Europa League qualification for next season.
The 28-year-old was rewarded for his efforts with a Premier League Player of the Month award for April, which was swiftly followed by a place in England’s provisional squad for the upcoming European Championships.
However, he was ultimately axed from Gareth Southgate’s final 26-man group on Tuesday.
Lingard has been heavily linked with a permanent move to West Ham in recent months amid continued speculation over his future at United.
The playmaker failed to make a single Premier League appearance for the Red Devils before his half-season spell away from Old Trafford, with the imperious form of Bruno Fernandes denying him the opportunity to stake a claim for the No 10 role.
Lingard will also be out of contract at the end of next season, leaving United with a dilemma over whether to cash in this summer or risk losing him for nothing in a year’s time.

His consistently impressive performances for West Ham have suggested that he could play a role for his parent club next season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer previously claiming that he would like the midfielder to return after the expiration of his loan deal.
It seems as though the Norwegian boss could get his wish this summer, with the Hammers now pushing hard to sign Liverpool outcast Oxlade-Chamberlain, according to Anfield Central.
The report claims that West Ham have tabled an offer for the former Arsenal man, with Moyes of the belief that he can successfully revive his career at the London Stadium.
Oxlade-Chamberlain missed the first three months of the season with a knee injury, but was selected to start just two Premier League matches after making his return to the fold in December.
Despite his lack of recent action, Jurgen Klopp reportedly has no plans to part ways with the man from Portsmouth and holds his versatility and work rate in high regard.
If West Ham can tempt Liverpool into selling, it would likely spell the end of their interest in Lingard, who could get the chance to force himself into Solskjaer’s plans for United as a result.
Meanwhile, former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas recently urged the Hammers loanee to seek a move away from Old Trafford this summer, highlighting his pivotal role under Moyes and the immense trust placed in him to lead the charge by the Scottish boss.
“You can see by the stats he’s having his best season,” Jenas told BBC Sport in April. “Eight goals in nine starts for West Ham is an example about how [happy] he feels at the football club.
“He’s got a manager that trusts him, he’s playing in a position that suits him. Lingard is much further forward on the pitch which is why he’s getting involved much more.
“I just think he’s a big player at this football club and essentially he’s showing that now at West Ham. He’s dictating play.
“He’s an intelligent footballer. This is a player playing at the top of his game. It’s not a coincidence he’s scoring all these goals.
“Look how high up the pitch he is. When he was at United, sometimes he was on the right, sometimes the left, sometimes a little deeper.
“Now he’s at West Ham, he can cheat a bit, hang up the pitch a bit higher and make things happen.”
