Man Utd boss Ten Hag sets new Rashford goal target ahead of Fulham clash
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag previews the Fulham game
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has challenged Marcus Rashford to score 40 goals across all competitions for the club next season. The England international broke the 30-goal barrier for the first time in his career after netting in his side’s stirring 4-1 win over Chelsea on Thursday night. Now, the onus is on the 25-year-old to get even better.
Rashford has been one of United’s best players this term, bouncing back after previously toiling under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
And Ten Hag has now challenged the England international to be even better next term as the club look to win a first Premier League title since 2013.
“Yes, I think there is more to come from Marcus,” he said.
“There’s a lot of room for improvement in his game and I’m convinced he can score even more.
“When you take, for instance, the last 10 games he didn’t score many goals. I think only two or three, so yes he can improve.

“I am happy about what he has done. He has brought himself back.
“We supported him where we could, with the way we play but also in his mental mindset.
“We are happy with him, but we must push him more.
“I think Marcus is capable of scoring 40 goals in a season. For him, that’s the next step.”
Ten Hag does feel, however, that United need other players to chip in with more goals next term.

The Red Devils want to sign Harry Kane to improve their attacking department, amid a growing feeling the Tottenham striker will leave this summer.
But they also have interest in Victor Osimhen and Dusan Vlahovic, of Napoli and Juventus respectively.
“Across the squad, we need more scoring abilities,” he stated.
“You can’t be dependent on one player.
“It can also come from this squad – but we need more scoring options.”
United have enjoyed a positive season under Ten Hag.
They’ve made the top four, won the Carabao Cup and also have an FA Cup final showdown with Manchester City to look ahead to.
Yet the Dutchman wants more and is determined to stop City’s treble charge in next week’s clash at Wembley.
“When I came here one year ago I said we wanted to win trophies,” he said.
“We have won one – but now we want to go for the highest.
“We have come a long way but this is going to be a project. It is not over one year. We are talking two or three years.
“But when there’s an opportunity to win a trophy, for every player it’s massive.
“I had a count and there are not so many players in our squad who have won the FA Cup. It is huge.
“The FA Cup is all over the world. It is global wide with a huge reputation.
“We have an opportunity to win it. We are realistic that it’s not going to be easy, but I can assure we will give everything in our power to get the cup.”
