Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been holding private talks with Roy Keane behind the scenes, reports say. The Red Devils have lost six of their last 12 matches across all competitions. And they’ll be hoping to end that torrid run when they lock horns with Watford on Saturday.

United had high hopes for a positive campaign after bringing in the likes of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo during the summer.

But the Red Devils have regressed in the time since, suffering awful defeats to the likes of Leicester, Liverpool and Manchester City in recent weeks.

That’s not ideal for United, leading to question marks over Solskjaer’s future win the process.

And the Independent say the 48-year-old has been talking to former team-mate Keane as he looks to turn things around.

The pair were close at Old Trafford during the years where Sir Alex Ferguson ruled the roost, helping the club dominate the Premier League under the Scot.

And Solskjaer appears to be looking for advice in order to keep his job.

United will go into their match with Watford on Saturday with links to plenty of managers doing the rounds.

Brendan Rodgers is one but, when speaking on Thursday, the Northern Irishman made it clear he wanted to stay at Leicester.

“There’s two things,” he said.

“Firstly, it’s really disrespectful for you to ask the question when you have a manager [Ole Gunnar Solskjaer] in place, a good manager and a good man, who is working for the club.

“Secondly, I can’t really comment on it because it is something that is not real.

“I am here as the Leicester City manager, I’m proud to be here, privileged to be here and fully committed to the players, the club, the ownership.

“That’s about it really. All the other noise around that is something that we can’t control.

“I’ve focused, like I have done in my career, so the only club I’m thinking about is Chelsea and getting ready for that.”

Erik ten Hag has also been linked but, like Rodgers, has made it known he’s content at Ajax.

Zinedine Zidane is another option yet his preference appears to be the France job.

And Mauricio Pochettino’s commitments at Paris Saint-Germain make the Argentine a tricky manager to pursue.

Meanwhile, Keane recently slammed United skipper Harry Maguire.

Maguire was on target for England against Albania over the international break but his decision to celebrate by cupping his ears was branded ‘embarrassing’.

But talkSPORT’s Adrian Durham has now turned on Keane, saying he’s ‘too scared’ to call out Solskjaer instead.

“He isn’t the problem,” he said.

“Roy Keane, why do you think he is going on about Maguire?

“Because he is too scared to call out his mate Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. It’s pathetic.

“Roy Keane, what he is doing, is not constructive, it’s not technical, it’s not even football.

“It is ridiculous what he is doing, it is tantamount to bullying and I don’t think it is helpful or constructive to an individual like Harry Maguire, who has got a lot to deal with.

“He has a lot to deal with as Manchester United captain, so calling him out for celebrating a goal…there’s lots of things you can criticise him for.

“His Manchester United performances – I get it! Lots of other Manchester United players aren’t playing well for United.

“Don’t criticise them for scoring a goal and celebrating, it is pathetic, it really is It’s embarrassing really.

“This is Roy Keane, by the way, who abandoned his teammates at a World Cup and what did they do? They celebrated after he had gone.

“So listen, he needs to just focus on other things.”
