Man Utd boss Erik ten Hag told to ‘shut up’ by fellow manager

Palmeiras manager Abel Ferreira has hit out at Erik ten Hag for suggesting that Manchester United’s fixture schedule had a part to play in the injury sustained by Marcus Rashford against Everton over the weekend. The in-form Red Devils striker limped off during the closing stages of his side’s two-goal win at Old Trafford, leaving United’s medical team to sweat over his condition ahead of this week’s Europa League quarter-final meeting with Sevilla.
Ten Hag explained after Saturday’s match that he was frustrated about United being pencilled in for the early kick-off despite playing against Brentford just three days earlier, with the Dutchman arguing that the intensity of the club’s fixture schedule may have played a role in shaping Rashford’s latest setback against Everton.
“It’s too much, especially when you play last Sunday night and then the first game on the Saturday,” said Ten Hag. “In the week, you have to make the game against Brentford, the game instead of the Carabao Cup. So you get punished for reaching the final, so it is not right.
“It is like this when you have to play so many games in short notice, especially when the schedule is this tight. Players can’t recover and you run the risk that players can get injured. You have to be aware of that. You can’t say [exactly what has happened with Rashford], even when you speak to him. We have to wait until tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, then we will see what is the diagnosis.”

Rashford has become the latest United player to succumb to a potentially serious injury, with the likes of Christian Eriksen, Anthony Martial and Alejandro Garnacho having sustained problems of their own during the second half of the campaign. Palmeiras boss Ferreira has since criticised Ten Hag for complaining about the fixture schedule by insisting that the situation faced by his own side is far worse than United’s current predicament.
“Football here has fantastic things, but there are others that are inhuman,” Ferreira is quoted as saying by ESPN Brasil. “[We have to play] nine games in one month! The Manchester United coach complained the other day that Rashford was injured due to the sequence of games he has.

“I’d like to ask him or tell him: ‘In these next two months, I’m going to have nine games a month’. Shut up, because you don’t know what you say.”
It remains to be seen whether Rashford will be passed fit to play in Thursday’s last-eight showdown with Sevilla in the Europa League as United continue to fight for additional silverware after their recent Carabao Cup triumph. There is no doubt that he will be sorely missed by the Red Devils if he is sidelined for any length of time after leading their attacking charge with 28 goals in all competitions since the beginning of the campaign.
