Manchester United and Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to vent their fury following the Champions League draw chaos on Monday morning. Both teams were initially drawn against Paris Saint-Germain and Red Bull Salzburg respectively. Yet, now, they’re primed to take on different opponents instead.

Manchester United recovered from a shaky start to their Champions League campaign to top a group also consisting of Villarreal, Atalanta and Young Boys.

Liverpool, meanwhile, won all six of their group stages games – beating Atletico Madrid, AC Milan and Porto home and away.

On Monday morning, at 11am, the draw for the Champions League knockout stages was made.

United, initially, were drawn against Villarreal. Then, after their ball was somehow left out of the pot later on, they were then paired against Paris Saint-Germain.

Liverpool, meanwhile, were pitted against Red Bull Salzburg.

With the mistake happening, UEFA have now agreed to do the draw again at 3pm.

“Following a technical problem with the software of an external service provider that instructs the officials as to which teams are eligible to play each other, a material error occurred in the draw for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16,” they said.

“As a result of this, the draw has been declared void and will be entirely redone at 1500 CET.”

But some fans aren’t happy, having already paid for flights.

Twitter user @kpoite2303, a Liverpool fan, said: “Just booked flights and hotel in Salzburg.

“If this draw gets redone and we don’t get same side, @ChampionsLeague @UEFAcom are going to reimburse all I assume?”

This supporter wasn’t the only one up in the arms about the chaos.

Another user on the platform, @bhayat19, said he’d booked tickets with his friends to go to Paris for their match with United.

Now, that match won’t be happening – unless they’re drawn against each other again.

“I cant believe it, me and my friends have booked tickets to paris due to the Champions league draw, and now you are telling me I wasted £150 on flights and hotels due to the corrupt ueafa (sic).

“Please help @ManUtd @UEFA @ChampionsLeague @Ryanair @PSG_English.”

It’s clear some supporters will need reimbursing if United and Liverpool are now paired against different opponents.

Nobody from United commented on the draw with PSG.

Yet Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp did address the match with Salzburg, saying it was a ‘tough place to go’.

“Tactically they are really good, technically they are really good,” he said.

“I think we cannot deny the ‘favourites’ role, but we know it is a tough place to go.

“We’ve played there a couple of years ago and it was a tough game and will be again.”

United have won the Champions League three times in their history.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have claimed the prize on six separate occasions – with the latest in 2019 when they beat Tottenham 2-0 in the final.
