Man Utd and Chelsea ‘£20m apart’ as Mason Mount transfer risks collapsing
Manchester United and Chelsea are reportedly miles apart in their valuation of Mason Mount with a move for the England international at risk of falling apart. Mount looks set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer with a host of clubs showing an interest in the versatile midfielder.
Chelsea have failed to meet Mount’s demands so far in contract negotiations, with 12 months left on his current deal. His contract situation has alerted both Liverpool and United, although the latter are said to be the favourites for a move.
It was reported last week that Mount had agreed personal terms on a switch to Old Trafford. But the major stumbling block was always going to be Chelsea’s asking price for their academy product.
According to The Times, Chelsea are seeking a figure no less than £70million. However, United are only prepared to go as high as £50m with transfer talks seemingly at a standstill.
Mount was present at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday where Sky Sports F1’s Martin Brundle cheekily asked the midfielder about a possible switch to Old Trafford. Brundle said: “He [Chelsea team-mate Ben Chilwell] says you’re going to Man United?”
Mount laughed off the comment from Brundle, adding with a smile: “I’m just here to enjoy this race today. Amazing day. Can’t wait to watch it.” The 24-year-old isn’t United’s only target for the summer though with Harry Kane reportedly a top priority.
