Man United 'keeping tabs on Oblak' as they look at goalkeeper options
Man United ‘keeping tabs on Jan Oblak’ as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prepares to enter goalkeeper market this summer… but £103MILLION release clause complicates move for Atletico Madrid No 1
- Jan Oblak has established himself as one of the finest goalkeepers in the world
- Manchester United have reportedly intensified their scouting reports on him
- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now choosing between David de Gea and Dean Henderson
- Oblak’s £103million release clause is a potential stumbling block to any deal
Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close eye on Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak as boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer targets reinforcements between the sticks this summer.
Oblak is considered among the finest in his position in world football and Sky Sports report that he is being considered among a shortlist of goalkeepers by United.
Recruitment staff at United are said to have ‘ramped up’ analysis of the Slovenian goalkeeper ahead of the summer transfer market – although his £103million release clause will likely prove a major stumbling block.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is reportedly ready to enter the transfer market for a new goalkeeper
Oblak has two years remaining on his deal at the LaLiga side and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the finances of Europe’s elite clubs could frustrate efforts to land Oblak in the coming months.
Sergio Romero is out of contract at the end of the 2020-21 season and will depart while there are also doubts over the long-term future of David de Gea.
De Gea returned to Spain for the birth of his child this month and reports in his home country have suggested he is on the trading block with Dean Henderson in line to be United’s next resident No 1.

But even if Henderson makes a compelling case while De Gea is away on paternity leave, United are still reportedly looking at options in the market should they wish to sign a goalkeeper.
Oblak’s £103m release clause makes any signing much trickier but United are also believed to be looking at AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma and Lille’s Mike Maignan.
Donnarumma, 22, will become a free agent at the end of the 2020-21 season unless a new deal to stay at the San Siro is agreed.
Talks between Milan and the player’s agent, Mino Raiola, are said to have been held up in recent weeks over Raiola’s call for a release clause to be inserted into any new contract.
Maignan, another option scouted out, is also seen as a more affordable option than Oblak.

Henderson will hope he can perform to a level that ceases United’s interest in goalkeeping targets before the end of the season.
He impressed in the 2-0 Manchester derby win away at City and caught the eye of former England goalkeeper Rob Green.
Green praised Henderson, claiming he can have a big future at Old Trafford.
‘Henderson has the attributes, he has got things going for him,’ Green said.
‘And you saw him yesterday in the game, he didn’t have a lot to do but he was there and made it look simple. He looked a composed figure.’
