Man City’s Phil Foden has England teammates ‘stunned’ with hidden darts talent
Man City midfielder Phil Foden is already heading for doubles and trebles this season… as a crack darts player.
The Etihad Stadium starlet, 20, usually lets his feet do all the talking for Pep Guardiola’s runaway Premier League leaders.
But we can reveal the Stockport-born youngster is able to boast another sporting talent – ‘King of the Oche’ when he joins up with England colleagues.
He left his Three Lions team-mates ‘stunned’ back in late-November, prior to the 4-0 Nations League stroll over Iceland at Wembley, hitting a maximum 180 and underling his growing reputation as the best darts player in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Foden also bagged his first goals for England that night with a double against the Scandinavian outfit, but it is his regular showings with the ‘arras’ which has convinced pals he is heading right to the top – or should that be double top.
An England insider said: “We all know Phil is a brilliant footballing talent and is destined to go on and do big things, hopefully for both club and country, and it seems he could have another career playing darts when he eventually does hang up his boots!
“The England lads have a dart board and are always challenging each other at the team hotel for fun and to try and break the boredom, but nobody really fancies taking on Phil these days.
“He doesn’t really play darts, but Phil has hit some 180s and regularly wins all the games of ‘Killer’ and ‘Round the Board’ – he's a darts shark.”
Foden is currently the hot favourite to win the PFA Young Player of the Year, thanks to his eye-catching displays this term for City, with 13 goals so far.
He joined City’s academy at the age of seven and is also odds-on to add to his two Premier League title medals in the coming months, with Guardiola’s men now ten points clear of nearest rivals Manchester United.
The source added: “Phil is a quiet kid and doesn’t really give much away, so it has certainly come as a surprise to everyone that his eye for a goal and a pass is matched by his darts.”
