Man City to play Scott Carson in goal vs Leicester after Ederson FIFA suspension
A sensational FIFA ban has ruled Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson out of this weekend's crunch clash with Leicester City – and opened the door for veteran stopper Scott Carson.
The Brazilian goalkeeper is one of eight Premier League players who face missing this weekend's fixtures following a five-day ban from the governing body.
The ban is a direct consequence of clubs refusing to release stars for international duty due to games being played in red-list countries.
City are one of five clubs to be hit with the ban along with Chelsea, Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester United.
FIFA's ruling has paved the way for veteran Carson to make a rare start for the Etihad outfit.
Since initially arriving on loan at City in 2019, Carson has made just one Premier League appearance for the reigning champions – starting in the thrilling 4-3 win over Newcastle United on the final day of last season.
City's current number two is Zack Steffen, but the American stopper is currently isolating and is therefore unavailable to deputise for Ederson.
Carson has made over 140 Premier League appearances during his career but his most recent taste of regular football was at Championship level with Derby County.
The 36-year-old made 30 appearances for the Rams in the 2018/19 season before making the switch to Manchester.

As well as losing their goalkeeper, City will also be without attacker Gabriel Jesus for this weekend's crunch clash with Leicester City.
Liverpool are also set to be without their first-choice keeper this weekend after Alisson and Fabinho were hit with the ban.
The ruling has come at the request of the Brazilian FA after they were left enraged by the club's refusal to sanction player's departure for international duty.
This is the latest development in what has quickly turned into a nightmare break for most Premier League sides.
Players from Aston Villa and Tottenham were the subject of an invasion from health officials during the match between Argentina and Brazil earlier this week.
The game had to be suspended after Emiliano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia from Villa and Spurs duo Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso were accused of failing to adhere to Brazil's strict Covid protocols.
It has since emerged that Romero and Lo Celso are set to be fined by Spurs after the pair travelled to link up with the Argentina squad without the clubs permission.
