Man City ‘to launch Harry Kane bid in January’ despite Antonio Conte assurances

Manchester City are said to be ready to try signing Harry Kane again in January despite Antonio Conte being assured he would stay at Tottenham.

Kane has been a shadow of his usual self at club level so far this season following his intense transfer saga with City over the summer window.

The decision to sack Nuno Espirito Santo and appoint Conte, a genuine world-class manager, is said to have been met positively by Kane and the Spurs squad, though.

And the Italian manager is a huge fan of the striker and wants him to lead his revolution – but the reigning Premier League champions have other ideas.

According to ESPN, a huge offer from City could tempt Daniel Levy into selling his prized asset.

They report that offer could come if there is an indication from the chairman that a deal would be possible.

With the clock ticking down on Kane's contract with Tottenham, it could all depend on how his relationship with Conte develops.

Has the boat passed on Kane joining City? Let us know in the comments section.

Kane was very much wanting out of the club in the summer, but if he buys into the new project over the coming months then his views may change.

If they don't, Tottenham could be forced to sell at the end of the season.

A deal in January now looks unlikely after Conte's arrival, but the £150m fee that Levy was demanding after Euro 2020 will be falling all the while.

Come next summer, just two years will remain on Kane's deal.

Whether City would want to sign him at the point is also up in the air.

In July 2022, the England captain will turn 29 years old, so City will not get as many years out of him as their other target, Erling Haaland, 21.

However, signing Haaland could be the trickiest transfer in history with how many interested parties there are.

Neither options are clear cut as City progress on without a Sergio Aguero replacement.
