Man City lose young winger Jayden Braaf to Borussia Dortmund with deal done

Manchester City have lost yet another promising young winger to Borussia Dortmund with starlet Jayden Braaf having secured a switch to Signal Iduna Park.

Braaf, 19, completed the formalities of his free transfer on Wednesday morning and will follow in the footsteps of Manchester United ace Jadon Sancho, who also left the City academy to pursue regular first-team football in west Germany.

The teenage forward may have indeed taken his inspiration from Sancho. The Man Utd man registered 38 goals and 51 assists during his four-year stay in the Bundesliga before returning to Manchester last summer in a £73million move.

Braaf joined the City academy as a 16-year-old, enjoying rave reviews for his flair and impressive track record in front of goal. The young Dutchman was named the under 23s Player's Player of the Year in 2020 but was never granted an opportunity to stake a claim in the first-team set-up.

He joined Udinese in January 2021 on a six-month loan deal but the Serie A outfit passed up their £9m option to buy at the end of the season. Whilst out in Italy, Braaf sustained a serious long-term knee injury and has missed the entirety of the current campaign.

It is believed City were open to a permanent exit in the January window but no offers materialised. He will now leave on a free transfer after penning a three-year deal.

Braaf posted a heartfelt leaving message on Instagram ahead of his switch to Dortmund: "I want to say a huge thank you to everyone at Man City for the faith and support they’ve shown in me over the last few years.

"I’ve grown both personally and professionally and wouldn’t be where I am today without their guidance. To my teammates, the academy staff and the fans, thank you! A big shout out to @nickoakley84 for working with me on my rehab and bringing me in the position I’m in now. All the best for the future."
