Manchester City have been crowned Premier League champions after Manchester United lost to Leicester at Old Trafford.

City have won back the title they lost to Liverpool last season having been the dominant side in England's top tier for the majority of the current campaign.

Despite a rocky start to the season, they sealed their third crown in four years after their local rivals stumbled against Champions League-chasing Leicester this evening.

The Foxes took the lead early on through youngster Luke Thomas before Mason Greenwood found the net again with an equaliser.

Caglar Soyuncu then popped up with a bullet header in the second-half to secure a win for the away side.

United needed to take all three points to stand any chance of catching Pep Guardiola's men this term.

City could have wrapped the title up last week only to see United's clash with Liverpool postponed when defeat for the Red Devils would have handed the crown to the blue half of Manchester.

City's recent defeat to Chelsea also stopped them celebrating, before United's win over Aston Villa at the weekend further delayed their title party.

Sergio Aguero's failed Panenka penalty was the main talking point of the Etihad loss.

After a difficult start to the season, City have cast aside all before them in the Premier League since mid-December.

Guardiola’s men have collected 61 points from 72 available to reclaim the title at a canter ahead of rivals United.

City's only defeats in that time came against Chelsea last week, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side at the Etihad in March and against Leeds – also at home – in April.

With the Premier League wrapped up, City will now turn their attention to the Champions League as they await Chelsea in the final.

The Blues have beaten Guardiola's men twice in recent months.

But with a historic treble in their midst, City may be able to gain their revenge over the west London side.
