Man City and Chelsea could be handed ‘nuclear’ punishment, finance expert says
Manchester City and Chelsea could be slapped with a "nuclear" 30-point deduction, or even face relegation, according to a football finance expert.
City currently face 115 charges of financial breaches dating back to 2009, all of which they deny, while Chelsea are under investigation for a number of suspicious payments made under Roman Abramovich’s tenure. And their investigations come after Everton's 10-point deduction.
Football finance expert Kieran Maguire told Football Insider that while there is the option of the "nuclear" punishment it's not the most probable outcome. He said: "Relegation is a possible punishment.

“Is it possible? Yes, but not probable – that is my reaction to it. But we could be looking at a very significant points reduction.

Everton were slapped with a 10-point deduction earlier this month when an independent commission ruled they had fallen foul of the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules.

The points deduction plunged Everton back into a relegation battle, and they now sit 19th after losing to Manchester United, which saw large scale protests around Goodison Park.
