Maguire spotted without crutches or protective boot in potential Man Utd boost

Manchester United have been handed a potential injury boost after Harry Maguire was spotted without his crutches or protective boot.

Red Devils skipper Maguire is facing a race to be fit for next week's Europa League final against Villarreal as he recovers from an ankle injury.

And he gave United fans reason to be hopeful as he attended the world premiere of 'Sir Alex Ferguson: Never Give In'.

Maguire was pictured with team-mates and boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as they turned up to see the first screening of the movie documentary about the legendary Old Trafford boss.

He wasn't quite suited and booted – having ditched the protective shoe he has been wearing while watching his team-mates from the sidelines as they secured second spot in the Premier League.

He was also walking without the aid of crutches in a positive development ahead of next Wednesday's clash.

Maguire has not played since coming off injured in the second-half of United's 3-1 win at Aston Villa on May 9.

Earlier this week, Solskjaer said his skipper was facing up to the prospect of missing out on the chance to help his side to a first trophy since he joined the club in 2019.

"We’re working on Harry, but it doesn’t look great,” said Solskjaer.

United have other injury concerns, notably first-choice midfield duo Scott McTominay and Fred, both of whom suffered problems in Tuesday's 1-1 draw with Fulham.

“We’ve had a couple of players that have got injuries, in Scott and Fred, so I’ll see how they are,” said Solskjaer.

"Unfortunately, Scott had to come off and Fred doesn’t look great while he’s walking now, but we’ve got eight days, so hopefully everyone will be available who was available for this game.”

It remains to be seen whether Maguire can make enough progress in recovering from his injury to face Villarreal next week.

But the sight of the centre-back without crutches is a step in the right direction – and is also good news for England ahead of Gareth Southgate announcing his squad for the Euro 2020 finals next week.
