Maguire overheard shouting at Man Utd debutant Elanga from stands
Harry Maguire was heard shouting instructions to Manchester United ace Anthony Elanga from the stands at Old Trafford early on during his debut.
The 19-year-old was handed his first appearance for the Red Devils after being promoted from the academy squad against Leicester.
His inclusion was one of numerous drastic changes to the starting XI made by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer – whose side took on Aston Villa 48 hours ago.
With Liverpool to come on Thursday, the United coach opted to utilise his squad with 10 changes to the team that beat Villa 3-1.
The likes of Donny van de Beek, Juan Mata and Alex Telles were handed rare starts with Elanga has also been given his debut as part of a youthful attack alongside Amad and Mason Greenwood.
One player not taking part was club captain Maguire, who came off injured against Dean Smith's side and is facing a late fitness test to make it for the Europa League final later this month.
But it did not stop the England international from playing his role as captain against his former club.
According to Goal, the 28-year-old could be heard barking instructions at Elanga, telling the teenager to take on his defender more.
Maguire is facing a race to prove his fitness ahead of the Europa League final and the European Championships this summer.
The United star suffered ligament damage to his ankle after an accidental collision with Anwar El Ghazi.
"Obviously we've had scans and the good news is there's no fracture," Solskjaer said.
"[There is] ligament damage and hopefully we'll see him again this season. Hopefully ready for the final."
