Maddison 'would love' Kane to snub Bayern to stay at Tottenham
James Maddison ‘would love’ Harry Kane to snub interest from Bayern Munich to stay and team up at Tottenham
- Bayern Munich continue to prioritise a move for Tottenham star Harry Kane
- New Tottenham signing James Maddison is eager to team-up alongside Kane
- The pair get on well off the pitch as they hold similar interests, including golf
James Maddison is desperate for close friend Harry Kane to reject a move to Bayern Munich to stay and team up together at Tottenham under Ange Postecoglou.
Maddison, who headed to north London in a £45million move from relegated Leicester City this summer, has a close friendship with Kane, with both keen golfers away from football.
But with German champions Bayern Munich ready to smash their transfer record with an £85m bid for Kane, there is a growing sense that his days as Tottenham’s lead striker are coming to an end.
Maddison, speaking at the TNT Sports start of season event in London a week out from the new campaign, is not willing to throw in the towel about being Tottenham team-mates yet for a while longer yet, however.
‘We were friends before I joined Tottenham from the England squad, we have similar interests and get on well anyway away from football,’ he said.

Kane is Thomas Tuchel’s top target at Bayern and they have already seen two bids rejected
‘I would love Harry Kane to stay, he’s the best No 9 in the world in my opinion. But what will be will be and Harry is super professional.’
Kane’s future has become a saga at Tottenham in recent years with his desire to go to Manchester City before they moved for Erling Haaland well documented.
Interest from Manchester United has been long-standing, too, and while Maddison is only weeks into his career at Tottenham, he is adamant that talk around where Kane plays this season is not affecting the dressing room.
‘It hasn’t been a distraction as Harry is super professional,’ Maddison, who has only got to play with Kane at club level a handful of times during this pre-season, said.
‘I won’t go into details because I don’t know anything and let’s be respectful about Harry’s situation.
‘Everyone knows what Harry Kane is like, he’s a super professional guy and whatever club he is at, whenever he goes into training he gives 100 per cent and it’s the same as all the lads so not [a distraction] at all really.’
The move now is in the hands of Bayern, with manager Thomas Tuchel locked on Kane as his No 1 target, especially after allowing former Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane to team up with Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia.

Bayern executives Jan-Christian Dreesen and Marco Neppe flew into London for talks with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy on Monday.
And while a deal was not agreed, Mail Sport understands Bayern are preparing a third bid that eclipses the £68m they paid for Lucas Hernandez in 2019.
Kane is open to a move to Germany and while Levy wants at least £100m for his star man, it is believed an offer in the region of £90m would tempt him, particularly if Kane is unwilling to pen a new deal.
Bayern are set to give the England captain a four-year deal so he can join Thomas Tuchel’s squad ahead of his first full season in charge.
