  • Mikel Arteta will look to refresh Arsenal’s attack this summer with new signings

Lyon are confident of reaching agreement to re-sign Arsenal striker Alexander Lacazette on a free transfer.

The 31-year old is out of contract and has been weighing up a number of offers from clubs across Europe but is understood to be closing on a return to Lyon where he made 275 appearances and scored 129 goals prior to a £46.5million transfer to Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta is looking to revamp his attack this summer and Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus is his number one target.

Alexandre Lacazette, who is out of contract, is believed to be of interest to his former club

Jesus is believed to be uncertain of his future at Manchester City, with the club having acquired Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund in addition to arrival of exciting Argentinian youngster Julian Alvarez from River Plate.

His path to a regular starting spot has been further curtailed by those acquisitions and as such is considering his options.

Arteta coached Jesus at Manchester City and was reported to have enjoyed a strong relationship with the player.

Gabriel Jesus is uncertain of his place in the Manchester City pecking order next season

‘He’s helped a lot of players,’ Jesus said of Arteta after he left City for Arsenal in 2019.

‘When I want to do finishing after training, I tell him and he comes and helps me.

‘So he is really fantastic for us. All the players know that — everyone knows that in the club. He is a fantastic guy and fantastic manager.’

Lacazette made 275 appearances and scored 129 goals in his time at Lyon before his move to England

‘I don’t honestly know what he thinks about his career, that is for him. I hope he can find his way and I hope he can be happy,’ he added.

Eddie Nketiah is also expected to sign a new five year contract despite interest from Leeds, Crystal Palace and West Ham.

Nketiah enjoyed a strong end to the season when he replaced Lacazette in the starting XI. He scored five goals in the last seven games of the season.

Mikel Arteta, who saw his side narrowly miss out on Champions League football, is wanting to continue the club’s rebuild this summer
