Romelu Lukaku will have a scan on his thigh before returning to Chelsea after the striker admitted he has been struggling with a ‘minor issue’.

The striker marked his 100th cap for Belgium with a goal in their 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic. Lukaku was booked later in the game and is now suspended for their game against Belarus, meaning he can make his way back to London early.

But the Blues’ £98million signing revealed a small injury concern, which Thomas Tuchel will be hoping does not turn into a bigger problem.

Speaking after Belgium’s victory, Lukaku said. ‘I’ll have a scan of my thigh first (before returning to Chelsea)

‘I am struggling with a minor issue for a while. And then I will return to Chelsea.’

The Blues face Aston Villa on Saturday and Tuchel will be desperate for his star striker to be fit.

Lukaku has been impressive in his first two games back for Chelsea and marked his debut against Arsenal with a goal in a 2-0 win.

He had a quieter 90 minutes in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Liverpool with the Blues going down to 10 men at the end of the first half.

Tuchel adimtted signing Lukaku puts greater pressure on him to win trophies but the German believes the striker brings strengths the Blues were lacking before.

‘Romelu brings qualities to the squad that we are convinced about. At the moment [the job] is more fun than pressure. Now it’s our job to bring the best from this group.

‘Outside expectations will not get lower but it’s the same for us. My expectations don’t get lower, so let’s be positive and do our best.

‘Romelu is the kind of personality we were missing up front and from now it’s our job to push ourselves to the limit.

‘Romelu is unique. He can play with his back to goal but also he is at his strongest in transition, with his immense speed. Add to that the fact he is a true goalscorer, so he is unique. Of course we expect goals and he expects that, too.’
