Porto winger Luis Diaz will reject Tottenham’s advances over the coming days in order to hold out for a potential move to Liverpool in the not-too-distant future, according to reports. The 25-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s most exciting talents in recent years and has been linked with a number of interested parties this month as a result of his stunning form at both club and international level.

Diaz has scored 16 goals for Porto in all competitions since the beginning of the campaign after impressing with Colombia at last summer’s Copa America.

He is said to be firmly on Tottenham’s radar, with Antonio Conte desperate to add some much-needed quality to his ranks ahead of the Premier League run-in.

The north Londoners are believed to be weighing up a late move for Diaz, who is thought to have a release clause in the region of £67million written into his current contract.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs would be willing to pay up in order to secure his services or if they could try and negotiate a lower fee with Porto over the next few days.

However, it seems as though any efforts to push through a move for Diaz could be in vain, with the player himself not convinced by the possibility of joining them.

He is expected to reject any contract offers from Tottenham in order to wait for Liverpool to come calling, according to Portuguese outlet Record.

It is claimed that Diaz is not tempted by the prospect of playing for Spurs and would rather secure a move to Anfield if the opportunity presents itself.

He reportedly sees Liverpool as ‘on another level’ to Tottenham and believes they would offer a ‘more seductive project’ than their Premier League rivals.

The six-time European champions have been linked with a move for Diaz since pre-season as they weigh up the addition of a new forward in the near future.

However, it seems unlikely that Liverpool will launch a lucrative approach for the Porto man before the end of the month amid their ongoing efforts to secure a fresh long-term agreement with Mohamed Salah.

The 29-year-old, who is currently representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, will be a free agent at the end of next season as things stand and is known to be keen on extending his stay at Anfield.

Salah has reportedly been locked in talks with Liverpool’s hierarchy for some time but is yet to commit his future to the club he joined from Roma back in 2017.

He recently declared that his preference would be to remain on Merseyside but insisted that his fate lies in the hands of the club.

“I want to stay, but it’s not in my hands, it’s in their hands,” Salah told GQ in a tell-all interview earlier this month.

“They know what I want. I’m not asking for crazy stuff. The thing is when you ask for something and they show you they can give you something, because they appreciate what you did for the club.

“I’ve been here for my fifth year now. I know the club very well. I love the fans. The fans love me.

“But with the administration, they have [been] told the situation. It’s in their hands.”
