Livingston’s clash with Aberdeen called off for SECOND time after their plastic pitch fails another late inspection due to waterlogged surface

Aberdeen’s Scottish Premiership match at Livingston has been called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Match referee Steven McLean carried out an inspection of the plastic pitch prior to the 7.45pm kick-off and deemed the surface unplayable.

It is the second time the game at the Almondvale Stadium has been postponed, with the original fixture – due to be played on December 30 – called off due to a frozen pitch.

Officials from Livingston tried to sweep the pitch to clear some of the water during the player’s warm up, but their efforts were not enough to see the game go ahead.

McLean revealed how was ball was struggling to bounce and that stated that it was sitting in the large puddles that accumulated on the surface.

Both sides were left frustrated having completed their warm-ups before the match officials reached a conclusion.  

The decision will also cause frustration for both sides as another rearranged game will add more chaos to the already hectic 2020-2021 schedule. 

Livingston and Aberdeen have already played less games than several clubs in the league. 

The Dons have already fell victim to rearranged games following Covid-related decision to postpone their fixtures.  

It is the second time the game has been postponed – with the first being due to snow
