Liverpool’s parade visible from plane as footage captures scale of celebrations

Liverpool's trophy parade celebrations were so wild they were spotted from an aeroplane.

Jurgen Klopp's men may have dipped out on securing a historic quadruple in recent weeks, but there was still plenty of reason to cheer on Merseyside. Manchester City pipped the Reds to the Premier League title by a point and endured a devastating 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid in Saturday's Champions League final, but only after they'd claimed two cups across the campaign.

Liverpool emerged victories on penalties in both this season's League Cup and FA Cup finals, clinching a domestic cup double by beating Chelsea twice in remarkably similar circumstances. The club's women's team were also in party mood having secured promotion back to the WSL.

Despite the disappointment of not seeing the club add to the trophy haul in recent weeks, Liverpool's fans put on a show as they came out in force to celebrate this season's success with a raucous bus parade. On Sunday, the club's players toured the city as they lapped up the acclaim of their fans during a parade which was planned regardless of the result against Real in Paris.

And so spectacular were some of the scenes that those travelling by plane could see the scale of celebrations from high up in the sky. One fan posted the staggering footage to Twitter accompanied by the caption: "One of the lads from our WhatsApp group (fans with disposable cameras) just posted this from his flight earlier! #LFC #LFCParade."

The images showed the streets of Liverpool down below, engulfed in a mass of red smoke as the thousands of spectators soaked up the club's success and lit numerous flares in honour of their heroes. On the ground, fireworks were let off and confetti also swamped the streets.

Despite the gut-wrenching defeat against Real Madrid, the season will still go down as a successful one. The Reds will take great pride in the fact they played in every single game during an incredible campaign which saw them land two more pieces of silverware.

However, while there was much to celebrate, some of the club's fans would also have felt a tinge of sadness on Sunday. Not only did they suffer heartbreak in Paris both on and off the pitch, but they are also face to the prospect of losing Sadio Mane this summer as he has hinted at an impending departure.

While thousands were in fine spirits on Sunday, not everyone was left impressed by the Reds' parade. FA Cup hero Kostas Tsimikas was branded "embarrassing" following his antics during the bus tour while some football fans slammed Liverpool's celebrations following their failure to land either the Premier League and Champions League.
