Liverpool’s decision over rescheduling Man Utd fixture may get mixed reaction
Liverpool will not ask the FA to award them three points – despite FA rules stating they should be given the win – following their postponed clash with Manchester United over the weekend.
The FA rulebook states: “Matches being abandoned by its members, or supporters, the board has the power to order that the match is not replayed and to award either one or three points to the Club not at fault.”
However, the Mirror say Liverpool has no intention to ask for the points; instead, they want to work with Untied to reschedule the game.
The decision, though, has split the fanbase.
Some Liverpool fans want the Red's to appeal for the points – to support their Champions League push – while others would argue they should replay the game.
One fan tweeted: " [If] it was any other team, the three points would of been given yesterday. But it's Liverpool so it won't happen!"
"Liverpool had to play two games in 24 hours (on different continents) last season. Force United to do the same or they can forfeit, it’s quite simple," another fan remarked in reply.
Rescheduling the game is a priority for both sides – with both wanting it to go ahead – however, it will be tougher than suspected.
United are involved in the latter stages of the Europa League this week, and their next two midweek slots are taken up with Premier League fixtures against Leicester and Fulham.
The Red Devils do have a free slot on the 15th – however, Liverpool are due to face West Brom on the day after.
Should the West Brom clash be moved forwards – to the midweek – it's possible that the game could be played then.
However, United may be asked to play two games in three days with the fixtures coming thick and fast for both sides.
