Liverpool transfer breakthrough as Romeo Lavia ‘agrees move after frustration’

Liverpool have reportedly ‘agreed personal terms’ with Romeo Lavia to seal a summer transfer and are hopeful £35million is enough to tempt Southampton into selling. The Reds began the summer transfer window with two quick deals, snapping up Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai.

But a third midfield signing was always going to be needed, particularly now with both Jordan Henderson and Fabinho on the verge of leaving. Ryan Gravenberch, Cheick Doucoure and Sofyan Amrabat have been touted as possible options for Liverpool in recent weeks.

But Lavia has been the leading target for several weeks now with Southampton’s £50million asking price the main stumbling block. Liverpool appear to be the only side showing any real interest in holding talks with Southampton.

The south coast side will need to drop their valuation for Liverpool to entertain making an official bid. However, Lavia has reportedly made it clear that he favours a move to Anfield now.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Lavia had grown a ‘little annoyed’ that Liverpool were taking so long with their approach. But he’s now said to have ‘agreed on personal terms’ with the Reds and Liverpool will launch their first bid soon.

Liverpool are reportedly aiming to offer around £35m for the midfielder, which is £15m short of what Southampton have previously been asking for. No formal approach has been made by Liverpool as of yet for the Belgian midfielder and he’s been a part of their pre-season schedule this summer.

And Southampton boss Russell Martin expects his players to remain focused on playing for the club so long as they’re a part of the group. “They’re all still here so we will give them everything we’ve got until we’re told otherwise – Jason [Wilcox, Southampton director of football] keeps me abreast of the situation,” he said.

“We had a chat about things (Saturday) morning and they’re all still our players, as far as I’m aware I don’t think anything has been agreed on. Whilst that is true, it is my job to coach them and try and get them to enjoy it with us and we’ll see.”
