Liverpool have been told why they could beat the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea to the signing of Declan Rice this summer, when Jurgen Klopp’s outfit may look to overhaul their midfield ahead of next season. The Reds have had their woes in the middle of the pitch highlighted this campaign, as several players are expected to join the likes of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho.

Jude Bellingham has been named as the ideal target, but with Real Madrid and Manchester City appearing to move ahead of the Reds in their pursuits, Liverpool may need to look elsewhere. Rice is set to be on the move as West Ham are reportedly resigned to losing their captain, having rejected the chance to extend his stay at the London Stadium.

David Moyes has warned potential bidders for his skipper that they would need to eclipse the £107million that Chelsea spent on Enzo Fernandez in January, as he is one of the reasons why former Manchester United striker Andy Cole believes that the Blues won’t move for Rice.

He also feels that because Arsenal are well-stocked in Rice’s position with four players Liverpool could have a better chance of signing the England star despite Cole’s concerns over his quality. “Declan Rice has been inconsistent,” Cole told King Casino Bonus.

“And also what does he actually do? Is Arsenal the right move? They already have Jorginho, Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny just signed a contract extension.

“Someone has to move on because Mikel Arteta won’t be able to keep everyone happy. Is Chelsea the right move? I’m not sure either because they have just bought Enzo Fernandez and other midfielders. It will be interesting who he chooses. But the £100m price tag West Ham have put on him, I would not pay that.

“If Liverpool are interested in Rice, then I’d be looking at that midfield if I was him because they need a rebuild. It looks like Liverpool plan to start all over again in the midfield, and also it’s not like they’re a bad team, they will bounce back next season.”

Rice impressed in England’s recent Euro 2024 victories over Italy and Ukraine, scoring against the former, while he has shone alongside Henderson in midfield for Gareth Southgate.

The 24-year-old could compete with Fabinho for a spot at the base of Klopp’s midfield trio, as the Brazilian has failed to live up to the standards set in previous years.

Alternatively, he could be deployed even further forward as his game has developed in attacking areas and he may be used alongside Fabinho and one other midfield star in either Henderson, Thiago, Stefan Bajcetic, Harvey Elliott, James Milner, Curtis Jones or Fabio Carvalho.
