Liverpool fans have been told not to get their hopes up about signing Jude Bellingham next summer by Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony as he will join Manchester City. The Reds have high hopes of signing the teenage sensation at the end of the season though will have to fend off plenty of interest.

After Erling Haaland was sold to City over the summer, Borussia Dortmund ruled that they would not be selling Bellingham so that they could retain a core of quality players – with Liverpool signing Arthur Melo on loan from Juventus instead. However, Dortmund’s reluctance to hold talks with anyone hasn’t deterred clubs from growing interested in the former Birmingham City academy product.

Reds are long-term admirers of the starlet, though they have been warned not to seriously consider themselves as candidates to secure the signature of the 19-year-old. Reds fan MacAnthony told the Hard Truth podcast: “Do people seriously think Liverpool are signing Jude Bellingham? Get a grip!

“With Man City, Chelsea and the wealth out there, Real Madrid, you think Bellingham is going to Liverpool? Don’t waste your time on that one, it’s never going to happen.

“That boy, I think he’ll go to Man City, they’ll sell Bernardo Silva to Barcelona, Gundogan will go back to Germany and spend their money.” Manchester City are expected to be interested in Bellingham, with reports circulating that Haaland has already spoken with his former teammates and sung the praises of the Etihad Stadium outfit.

City look like an unstoppable force at the moment, with Haaland in record-breaking form and midfielders Phil Foden and Kevin de Bruyne chipping in with goals and assists. Gundogan’s contract expires at the end of the season though the player has hinted that he could pen a new deal by saying he ‘imagines himself staying’ – though if he does depart, Kalvin Phillips has been waiting patiently for an opportunity at City.

Real Madrid have been working hard to build a long-term midfield trio that can carry them to success for many years to come, showing an interest in signing Bellingham before the start of this season. They have acquired the services of Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga over the past few seasons and the addition of Bellingham would give Los Blancos the most exciting young midfield in world football – with Federico Valverde another option but he is currently being deployed on the right wing.

Chelsea are also thought to be interested in Bellingham, with Graham Potter promised to be well-backed after jumping ship from Brighton to the Blues last month. Liverpool, though, will feel they have a solid chance at bringing the midfielder back to England and will certainly be keen to tap into his boyhood affection for the club as a way to persuade him that leaving the Signal Iduna Park for Anfield is the best step in his career.
