Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Colombian star Luis Diaz for a fee of around £50million after they stole the Porto winger from under Tottenham’s noses – and it certainly won’t stop them playing hardball with Mohamed Salah in his contract talks, according to reports.
Liverpool were in the market for a winger having not bought a first-team wide-man since Takumi Minamino in January 2020.
Many have been linked, from Premier League stars Jarrod Bowen and Raphinha to France prodigy Kylian Mbappe.
Instead, the Reds decided on Diaz, despite advances from Spurs for the 24-year-old.
A fee worth just under £50m was agreed for the diminutive Colombian, despite Porto initially wanting £83m for his services.
Yet despite the eye-watering figures involved, Liverpool will still continue to play hardball in talks for Salah, according to the Daily Mirror.

The report claims that Liverpool were willing to wait until the end of the season to make a move for Diaz once Salah’s future was clearer.
Tottenham’s interest then prompted transfer chief Julian Ward to swiftly scupper a north London deal.
The arrival of Diaz will signal that Jurgen Klopp’s men will still continue to play hardball with Salah after he demanded a reported £400,000-per-week from the club.
But as arguably the best player in the world on current form, Salah may just be worth the wage hike.
Klopp had made Diaz his No 1 target in the summer after closely following his rise in Portugal and Colombia.
Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick also kept tabs on the 5ft 7in trickster, but Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez urged him to join the red half of Merseyside.
The Porto player is currently away on international duty for his country.
