Liverpool ‘suit the Champions League’ with Reds backed for 7th European crown

Liverpool have what it takes to claim Champions League glory this season according to Robbie Keane – who wouldn't be surprised to see them topple Real Madrid.

Keane, who played 28 times for the club during the 2008/09 campaign, thinks Jurgen Klopp's style of play perfectly suits two-legged ties, with three finals across the last five seasons.

With Liverpool hosting the reigning champions of Spain on Tuesday evening (February 21) and again on March 15, Keane is feeling positive about his former club.

"They are not in great form in the Premier League, but I really believe Liverpool have an opportunity to go and win the Champions League,” Keane told Betway.

"Can they do it while underperforming domestically? Absolutely.

"The way they play certainly suits the Champions League and they have shown their quality in Europe over the past few years."

Having lost to Real Madrid in the 2018 final, Liverpool bounce back to beat Tottenham 2-0 the following season to lift the trophy for a sixth time.

Liverpool go into the tie as the underdogs while sitting ninth in the Premier League table, with reasons to be positive after consecutive victories.

Klopp said before the match that he had watched back their 1-0 Champions League final defeat for the first time, in the build-up – and didn't like what he saw.

He said: "I didn’t watch it back until this weekend. The thing I realised immediately was now I know why I didn’t watch it back – but I had to.

"It was proper torture because we played a good game and could have won and that’s the decisive word – could – but didn’t because they scored and we didn’t.

"But apart from that we could have won the game."
