Liverpool 'still want Carvalho of Fulham – who want Neco Williams'

Liverpool ‘still negotiating deal for Fulham wonderkid Fabio Carvalho’ but the Championship leaders ‘want Reds right-back Neco Williams on loan’ this deadline day as the clock ticks on

  • Liverpool want to sign Fulham’s 19-year-old young midfielder Fabio Carvalho
  • The Reds have been negotiating a £5m deal but could loan him back to Fulham
  • Reports say the Cottagers want Liverpool right-back Neco Williams on loan

Liverpool’s pursuit of Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho will go into the final two hours of the transfer window – but the two clubs are discussing Reds full-back Neco Williams on a loan deal, say reports.

Sportsmail revealed on Sunday that the Reds are negotiating a £5million move for the highly-rated 19-year-old, who has just six months left on his contract at the Championship club.

Liverpool have made an offer for the attacking midfielder though Fulham remain determined to keep hold of Carvalho with head coach Marco Silva publicly ruling out his imminent departure last week.

The Cottagers also reportedly want to sign Liverpool right-back Neco Williams on loan too

But according to multiple reports, including The Athletic, talks over Carvalho moving to Anfield but heading back on loan to Fulham until the summer are being discussed, while Williams could move to west London on a temporary deal as well.

Wales international Williams remains firmly behind Trent Alexander-Arnold in the right-back pecking order at Anfield, with the 20-year-old featuring just eight times for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

Liverpool let centre-back Nat Phillips join Bournemouth on loan for the rest of the season on deadline day and Williams could join his fellow defender in moving to a Championship promotional rival.

Carvalho, meanwhile, has been in top form for Championship leaders Fulham – who top the second tier by five points – scoring seven goals and registering four assists this term.

If a compromise can be reached now, that would avoid losing the midfielder for a compensation fee in the summer and Liverpool will fend off fierce competition.

Carvalho has been at Fulham since he was 14 but has decided against signing a new deal.

Liverpool signed Carvalho’s former youth team-mate Harvey Elliott from Fulham in 2019, in a deal that required a tribunal with Liverpool ordered to pay an initial fee of £1.2m for the then 16-year-old with add-ons to £4.3 million. Fulham had initially wanted closer to £10m.

Liverpool sold Harry Wilson to Fulham for a fee rising to £12m last year but under the terms of that deal, Liverpool agreed to wait until this year for the first instalment to help Fulham navigate FFP protocols.
