Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been pictured in a hospital bed after his worrying head collision at the Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday. Mane experienced an eventful second half in Senegal’s 2-0 last 16 win over Cape Verde before being forced off after 70 minutes.
Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha was sent off in the 57th minute after clattering into Mane, who was through on goal, on the edge of the box.
After the impact, BBC’s John Bennett reported that Vozinha couldn’t walk straight whilst Mane appeared to be ‘knocked out’.
However, the 29-year-old was allowed to continue playing and opened the scoring with a sensational curling finish just six minutes later.
He appeared concussed from his impact with Vozinha though and was substituted with 20 minutes to play.

There was much concern surrounding Mane’s condition, and not even because of his importance to both Senegal and Liverpool.
But since the incident, he has posted an update on his Instagram account showing him and Vozinha in good health.
Mane captioned the Story: “Senegal vs Cape Verde. In the pitch, in the hospital.”
The Champions League-winning winger’s availability for the remainder of Senegal’s tournament remains to be seen.
After full-time, Bennett questioned why Mane wasn’t immediately substituted following the sickening collision with Vozinha.
He wrote: “Mane’s head clash was really uncomfortable to watch. It was clear that the Liverpool forward was knocked out as he fell and hit his head again on the turf – he looked like a defeated boxer.
“Meanwhile, the Cape Verde keeper couldn’t walk straight before being ushered away by his teammates following his red card.
“But it’s the aftermath that raises questions. Why wasn’t Mane substituted straight away?
“Yes, he scored not long after the collision, but the decision not to take him off looked even more unwise when he laid down on the pitch following his goal and clearly looked in distress before eventually being replaced.
“It wasn’t a good look, and you just hope Mane is OK.”
The Premier League have been showing extra urgency and care for head injuries in recent seasons, but such precautions seemed to be ignored during Senegal vs Cape Verde.
Developments on Mane’s condition will likely come to light in the coming days as Senegal march on at AFCON.
