Liverpool star Joe Gomez shows off gruesome scar caused by injury rehabilitation
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has shown off the gruesome scar on his left knee after undergoing surgery on a ruptured tendon.
Gomez, 23, picked up the injury on England duty back in November and is now facing a battle to play again this season.
The Reds centre-back immediately underwent successful surgery on the problem, nevertheless, and has been stepping up his rehabilitation over the past two months.
But in his latest update on social media, it is clear to see the operation has left a nasty scar on Gomez’s left knee.
And Liverpool fans now fear he could spend even longer on the sidelines than expected.
One Reds supporter wrote: “There’s definitely a lot more to the Joe Gomez injury, just look at that scar.”
Another fan said: “Seriously his knee has been absolutely ruined”.
While a third simply commented: “Ouch.”
Gomez was spotted undergoing a vigorous workout at Liverpool’s AXA training facility this week as he continues his recovery from the ruptured tendon injury.
Alongside a picture of him completing the training, the England defender wrote on Instagram: “Taking it a day at a time, but giving my all… ‘There is no education like adversity’.”
Jurgen Klopp has also lost Gomez’s centre-back partner Virgil van Dijk to a serious knee injury earlier this season, with the Dutchman also unlikely to play again in 2020/21.
When quizzed on Van Dijk’s progress, Klopp recently said: “I don't know what is possible and I don't think I am the right person to judge it.
“He looks really good and I've spoken to him. He is in a good mood but I don't know when he'll be back. I had this injury myself but for the time we are in and how long he is out, he looks really promising.”
