Liverpool urged to sign Leeds ace

Liverpool have been urged to make a move to sign Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips.

The Reds will likely want a replacement for Wijnaldum this summer if he completes his expected move to Barcelona, and Emile Heskey believes Phillips would be he ideal target.

“You can know your job and not really know when you receive the ball how to play those penetrative passes," he said to Rousing The Kop of England international Phillips.

"He has those passes. He has the dogged ability to get around the pitch and put in some tackles as well.

“He has every side of his game, whether you can get him is another thing.”

Central midfielder Wijnaldum is expected to leave the club in the summer and join Barcelona on a free at the end of his contract, having snubbed the chance to stay.

And club hero Graeme Souness believes he's let the speculation over his future get to him on the pitch, and claimed he's not playing with the same intensity anymore.

"Wijnaldum is leaving for Barcelona and I’m not sure how I’d have reacted to a player who made it clear he was off, how that goes down in a dressing-room," he wrote for The Times.

"The players may make a joke of it, but it also may not sit well with all of them..

"He’s not played with the same intensity this season, Henderson has been absent with injuries, Naby Keita has not shown he can step up, Milner’s another year older, Fabinho’s often filled in at centre back and Thiago Alcantara has come into a team that’s been huffing and puffing."
