Liverpool sent alarming Barella warning as Bellingham alternative
Liverpool have been warned Nicolo Barella’s asking price has gone up by a further £10million following his starring role in the Champions League quarter-final. Jamie Carragher has been full of praise for the Italy international but is concerned his old club could potentially be priced out of a deal.
Barella scored in each leg of Inter Milan’s quarter-final win over Benfica. He now has eight goals to his name in all competitions this season, the best tally in his career to date.
Liverpool have been linked with a move for the 26-year-old. The Reds are keen to overhaul their midfield this summer and Barella is one player they are looking at.
Jude Bellingham was a long-term target for Liverpool but the Merseysiders have cooled their interest in order to not spend the majority of their summer budget on one player. But Carragher has warned Jurgen Klopp that Barella will now cost more than he expected.

He said on CBS Sports: “He was fantastic. There’s actually talk of him being linked to my club called Liverpool for next season. So, that’s an extra £10m we may have to pay on top of the price tag if it does happen.”
Barella initially joined Inter on loan from Cagliari in 2019 before making the move permanent a year later. He has six assists alongside his eight goals from midfield this season.
It isn’t the first time Carragher has singled him out for praise. In March, he described Barella as one of the best in his position in Europe and predicted him to make a move to either the Premier League or La Liga in the future.

Carragher said last month: “When you think about how teams set up now, you see Inter play with a back three with five in midfield, or a 4-3-3 and I think he’s probably one of the best in Europe playing in that tucked-in, right-sided central midfield position. He’s box-to-box, he gets goals from there.
“We saw how outstanding he was for his national team in winning the European Championships. He’s that player who can open things up, he gets in there, but that inside right position now is so important in football and can you make runs from that position? He makes runs ahead of the striker. And he’s a huge goal threat.
“Any top team needs to have goals from midfield. It’ll be really interesting if he actually stays at Inter but you think one day would he go the Premier League or one of the Spanish giants because I certainly think he has the ability to do so.”
