Liverpool have turned down two separate bids for the services of defender Nathaniel Phillips, who could still move on ahead of this month’s transfer deadline, according to reports. The 24-year-old is contracted to the Reds until the summer of 2025 but has struggled to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans over the course of this season.

Phillips has registered just four appearances in all competitions since the beginning of the campaign after playing a key role in helping Liverpool to seal Champions League qualification last time around.

The six-time European champions have rejected two concrete offers for their man, one of which was made by Watford, according to the Liverpool Echo.

It is claimed that Liverpool are holding out for a fee in the region of £15million as a result of Burnley shelling out £12m to land Stoke City defender Nathan Collins last summer.

It seems as though a move elsewhere for Phillips could soon be on the cards, though, with the Reds set to recall Rhys Williams from his loan spell at Swansea City in order to replace the Bolton Wanderers academy product.

The 20-year-old, who signed a new long-term deal at Anfield over the summer, has only made seven appearances for Swansea since joining the Championship outfit on a temporary basis.

His most recent league outing came against Middlesbrough at the start of December and he was not even included in Russell Martin’s matchday squad to face Huddersfield Town on Saturday.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen whether any club will meet Liverpool’s valuation of Phillips between now and the end of the month.

He recently admitted that he is prepared to leave the Reds in order to play more first-team football if the right club makes an enticing approach in the near future.

“I want to be playing games, it’s been tough because the competition to get in this team is fierce,” Phillips told Sky Sports last month.

“The manager and I agree that the best thing for me is to play as many games as possible. I think you saw last year I developed well.

“I’m going to see what comes along and go from there. I think at this moment in time it’s unlikely that I’ll be playing lots of games for Liverpool.

“So if an opportunity arises where I get the chance to do that somewhere else and it suits everyone then it’s certainly something I’d be interested in.

“I’ve had the exposure and experience in the Premier League and the Champions League. So maybe those situations where you’re new and nervy, I’ve gone through that phase.

“I don’t need to go through that process if I do go somewhere else. I’ll be ready straight away to get involved and play.”
