Liverpool have reached an agreement with PSV over the transfer of Cody Gakpo, who has been a long-term target of rivals Manchester United.

In a statement published on social media on Monday night, PSV said they had "reached an agreement [with Liverpool] on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo.

"The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer."

Reports the clubs were in advanced talks broke earlier this evening and it appears Liverpool have now won the race, with the World Cup star set to move to Anfield when the transfer window opens next week.

Liverpool, who beat Aston Villa 3-1 earlier tonight, are yet to officially comment on the matter, while the size of the transfer fee remains, for the time being, undisclosed.

Gakpo, who can play on either wing as well as up front, was one of the standout stars of the 2022 World Cup after netting in each of his country's three group matches before they crashed out in the quarter-finals, losing on penalties to eventual winners Argentina.
